Wilson Combat has developed a combat tough, Bullet Proof® adjustable gas system for AR-15 and AR-10 platform rifles.  Adjusting your rifle’s gas volume will moderate your cyclic rate and tailor your gun’s performance to your shooting needs. This adjustable gas system is especially useful on short barreled rifles, match rifles, suppressed rifles and rifles chambered in non-standard AR calibers and when shooting a variety of factory and custom hand-loaded ammunition.

This all-new adjustable gas system has been designed based on user-feedback from top tactical and competition AR shooters and are available for AR-15 and AR-10 platforms in a variety of gas lengths and barrel diameters.  This gas system will withstand high round count, sustained and suppressed shooting without seizing up over time-the typical weak link of all available adjustable blocks.  Moderating your rifle’s gas lowers cycling rate which can reduce wear and tear on your component parts, reduce felt recoil and reduce carbon fouling and blowback.

The Wilson Combat Bullet Proof® Adjustable Gas system has 16 clicks of adjustment, allowing the shooter to fine tune their specific rifle to their ammunition for optimized performance. The internal stainless steel regulator assembly actually cuts carbon like an auger as you adjust the block ensuring that it will not clog or sieze during or after heavy use. The regulator allows full cut off and prevents excess carbon fouling.  The robust adjustment screw is a common flat head size so no special tools are required for field tuning or adjustment.

The Bullet Proof® Gas System comes fully assembled with a straight gas tube that ensures better mating with your bolt’s gas key and higher strength under sustained fire than a typical “bent” gas tube.  The black nitride finished block will match most AR finishes and ensures your block will remain corrosion free.

  • 4140 Steel gas block with rust proof black nitride finish
  • 17-4 Stainless steel regulator screw/auger with rust proof black nitride finish
  • 16 clicks of adjustment to fine-tune the gas pressure of any AR rifle
  • Flathead adjustment screw resists seizing and head stripping
  • Pre-installed, straight gas tube for improved gas seal and strength
  • Easily user installed and tuned for perfect function
  • Multiple lengths and sizes to fit most common AR-15 barrel diameters and gas system lengths

Instructions for Installation/Tuning with a Stripped/Unloaded Upper with Barrel/Barrel Nut Completely Installed

  1. Make sure you have the correct size gas block for your barrel diameter and the appropriate length tube for your gas system.
  2. Slide gas block over installed barrel gas seat to ensure a snug fit.  If the block is too tight polish the barrel gas seat with emery cloth in a shoeshine motion until you achieve a snug fit.
  3. When the gas block is perfectly aligned with your gas port, install a set screw into the barrel dimple.  At this time it is a good idea to make sure your bolt carrier assembly mates properly with the gas tube and that the new gas system will clear the inside of your rifle’s handguard when assembled.
  4. A “best practice” is to perform a test installation of the gas block assembly to confirm gas port placement and block adjustment/operation  Once gas block placement and reliability has been confirmed at the range you can semi-permanently install the block by drilling a second barrel dimple and/or using threadlocker. This semi-permanent installation is optional.
  5. To tune your gas block, start at position four (4 clicks counter-clockwise from fully closed) with one round in the magazine . Fire the rifle with a loose hold on it. Increase gas volume incrementally by adjusting your regulator one or two clicks to the LEFT (counterclockwise) as viewed from the front of the rifle.  YOU MUST ONLY ADJUST THE BLOCK WHEN THE RIFLE IS UNLOADED WITH AN EMPTY CHAMBER.  Continue to open the regulator until you get reliable lockback on the last-round empty. When your rifle is reliably locking back on an empty magazine, turn the regulator 2 extra clicks counterclockwise to compensate for fouling or low powered ammunition. This is your “optimized” gas setting for this particular rifle/load.
  6. Note how many clicks of adjustment from fully closed you used and note the position of the indicator dot on the gas regulator. If you tune your gas system while using a suppressor, you may need to increase gas pressure by turning the regulator screw in a counterclockwise motion if you choose to shoot unsuppressed.
  7. If your rifle short strokes after getting fouled during shooting, further open the regulator in a counterclockwise motion until your system has sufficient gas to reliably lock the bolt back on an empty magazine. Unlike other adjustable gas systems, the rugged, durable Wilson Combat design continues to be adjustable for thousands of rounds of heavy use. If you need to remove heavy carbon fouling, you can move your gas block regulator through its range of motion to free up carbon with the auger, but you should always return back to your “optimized” gas setting for best function.
